MyChart Activation - Inpatient

Dashboard description

This dashboard displays MyChart Activation status by hospital encounter.

Use the metric selector to select '% MyChart Active at Discharge' or '% MyChart Active at Admission'. These display the percent of patients and/or patient proxies who had an active MyChart account on the day of their discharge or admission, respectively.

The Main page of the dashboard shows MyChart activation status broken down by preferred language, age group, race/ethnicity, and payor. Data on the main view are aggregated by month.

The second page, Departmental Analysis, shows MyChart activation status broken down by department. Data on the Departmental Analysis are for the entire time period selected on the date selector in the top right.

Data is included from March 1, 2020 until the date listed in the top right of the dashboard. Data is refreshed weekly on Saturdays at 2AM.

Purpose of the Tool
  • Enable disparity identification in MyChart Activation rates using quality assured standard UCSF Health equity-related variables to empower UCSF Health operational initiatives in advancing disparity improvement. (Learn more about equity efforts at UCSF Health)
  • MyChart access should be equitable experience for all patients. If MyChart Activation rates are low, the tool enables leadership and hospital units/teams/services to identify the need for action and track progress of disparity improvement interventions.
Key Definitions and Details

Population

  • Hospital encounters: hospital encounters are the lowest level of granularity included in the dashboard. These are derived from the Enterprise Information and Analytics (EIA) Foundation data source. Inpatient, observation, and emergency department hospital encounters are included. Only encounters from which patients have been discharged are included.

Metrics

  • % MyChart Active at Discharge: percent of patients and/or proxies with an active MyChart account at the time of discharge out of all discharges during the displayed time period.
  • % MyChart Active at Admission: percent of patients and/or proxies with an active MyChart account at the time of admission out of all admissions during the displayed time period.

Filters

  • Department: hospital department from which the patient was discharged.
  • Service: hospital service from which the patient was discharged.
  • Care Center: mutually exclusive groups based on Location, Cancer Center grouper, and BCH grouper.
    • BCH East Bay: department in East Bay service area and included in BCH grouper.
    • BCH West Bay: department in West Bay service area and included in BCH grouper.
    • Adult Cancer Center: department included in Cancer Center grouper.
    • Adult (Non-Cancer Center): all departments not included in the above groups.
  • Race/Ethnicity: UCSF-defined race/ethnicity variable.
  • Financial Class Group: payor group defined by UCSF Shared Services Finance.
  • Patient Class: inpatient, observation, or emergency department encounter.
